Box Score

SAN BERNARDINO — No. 10 Chico State pounded out 23 hits and scored 20 runs in just six innings in a 20-5 win over Cal State San Bernardino.

The Coyotes (14-7, 14-6 CCAA) held a 2-1 lead through the second inning on a ground-out by Chris LeFay and a single by Mike Lange that scored Bryant Veiga and Ryan Hulbert, but the Wildcats answered with nine runs in the top of the third to take a 10-2 lead.

Chico State added two more runs to take a 12-2 lead before the Coyotes cut it to 12-5 in the fourth with a two-run single to left by Eric Ornelas, that scored James Kono and Ethan Chapman, and an RBI-double down the left field line by Cody Madison that drove home Ornelas.

That was as close as CSUSB came and the Wildcats put the game away with eight more runs in the top of the sixth.

Trevor Longfellow (3-1) took his first loss of the year, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits in 2.1 innings of work. The Wildcats' Scott Greene (1-0) recorded his first win of the year.

Hulbert and Lange went a combined 4-for-7 as Hulbert went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Lange went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
