Cal State San Bernardino and Vanguard University each scored in the final minute of each half and battled through one overtime before their collegiate women's soccer match was halted by darkness, resulting in a 1-1 tie Saturday.
The Coyotes, 2-0-1, scored in the final minute of the first half on a header by freshman
Jenna Sanchez off a corner kick delivered by another freshman,
Ashley Haagsma.
Vanguard, 1-1-1, took the momentum away from the Coyotes midway through the second half and then got the equalizer in the final minute of regulation as Mallory Olloque finished off a flick and a pass from teammates Danielle Dintino and Kaitlin McGhee just inside the 18-yard line.
The two teams battled through a scoreless 15-minute overtime and the match was called on account of darkness.
The Lions forced 21 shots and Coyotes goalkeeper Shawna-Rei Kam made eight saves. Vanguard's Emilia Miller provided some anxious moments for the Coyotes as two of her free kicks from long range glanced off the crossbar of the goal.
CSUSB had a solid chance for the win in overtime but
Megan Monahan's shot from close range was wide right. Jillian Foss made two saves in the net for the Lions.
