SAN MARCOS, Calif. - California State University San Bernardino women's soccer battled unbeaten Cal State San Marcos to a 0-0 draw on Sunday afternoon at The Cage in its first CCAA road match of the season.
With the draw, the Yotes move to 2-2-2 overall and 1-0-1 in CCAA play.
Cal State San Marcos came out of the gate applying pressure from the opening minute, outshooting CSUSB 9-5 in the first half as the two sides went into the break scoreless.
The tide shifted after halftime as the Yotes created more going forward and outshot the Cougars 7-5 in the second half. Senior Raylene Alcaraz nearly broke the deadlock in the 80th minute when her shot hit the crossbar.Â
CSUSB continued to push late, creating four chances in the closing minutes. A potential penalty was also reviewed by VAR, but no penalty was awarded.
Senior goalkeeper Bella Ortiz finished with four saves while recording the clean sheet, moving her record to 1-1-1 on the season.Â
Up next, the Yotes return home to face Cal Poly Humboldt in a rematch of last season's CCAA Tournament First Round, where CSUSB was eliminated in penalty kicks.
