Women's Soccer Drops San Francisco State

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - California State University San Bernardino women's soccer opened its home schedule and CCAA play with a 1-0 win over San Francisco State on Friday afternoon at Premier Field.

With the win, the Yotes improve to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0-0 in CCAA play.

CSUSB broke through in the 34th minute after winning possession back near midfield. Freshman Graciella Baird carried the ball forward before sending a ball into the box that took a deflection off a San Francisco State defender and fell to senior Raylene Alcaraz. Alcaraz took another touch to get away from the defender, found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and finished with her right foot to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead.

The one-goal advantage held through halftime as the CSUSB defense kept San Francisco State off the board.

CSUSB finished the match with a 12-3 advantage in shots while putting seven on goal compared to two for San Francisco State.

Making her home debut, senior goalkeeper Bella Ortiz finished with two saves while keeping San Francisco State off the scoreboard for the balance of the contest. The win moves Ortiz to 1-1-0 on the season in goal for the Coyotes.

The Yotes will travel to Cal State San Marcos on Sunday, with kickoff set for 11 a.m.
