TURLOCK, Calif. – California State University San Bernardino women's soccer defeated Stanislaus State 4-0 on Thursday evening in a CCAA contest at Warrior Stadium.
With the win, CSUSB improved to 4-2-3 overall and 3-0-2 in CCAA play.
CSUSB wasted no time getting on the board. At the 1:23 mark, fifth-year Alissa Torres' hard work paid off as she won the ball back inside the box. Torres found senior Raylene Alcaraz, who took on a defender before firing a left-footed shot into the top right corner to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead.
Alcaraz wasn't done there. In the 28th minute, she won the ball from a defender near midfield and took off toward goal, dribbling through the Warriors' defense before finding herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Alcaraz finished with her right foot into the bottom left corner to complete the brace, giving her three goals on the season and sending the Coyotes into halftime with a 2-0 lead.
The Yotes continued to apply pressure in the second half and struck again in the 58th minute. Fifth-year Ruby Segura carried the ball past midfield before sending a through ball to Torres. After beating her defender, Torres chipped a ball into the box where sophomore Jaclyn Silva met it with a first-time volley into the top right corner to push the lead to 3-0. The goal was Silva's first of the season, while Torres picked up her second assist of the evening.
CSUSB wasn't finished, adding one more in the 86th minute. Junior Vianca Sanchez won the ball on the right side following a throw-in and found junior Jordan Goldstein. From outside the box, Goldstein whipped a ball into the area that found senior Valerie Garcia, who headed it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season to cap the 4-0 victory.
Senior Bella Ortiz finished the afternoon with three saves to improve her record to 3-1-2 on the season. Ortiz now has five consecutive clean sheets, has yet to allow a goal in CCAA play, and has gone 460 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.
For the game, both teams finished with 14 shots, but the Coyotes held a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.Â
Next up, the Yotes will travel down the road to UC Merced on Sunday for another CCAA matchup. Kickoff between the Coyotes and Bobcats is set for 2 p.m. at Bobcat Field.
