LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team won two events on Thursday as the Coyotes competed at the Cal State LA Twilight Open at Jesse Owens Track.
The Yotes won the very first track event of the day when junior
Yoselin Canseco (San Bernardino, Calif.) crossed the finish line first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:07.12. Two events later, fellow distance runner
Liana Brehm (Menifee, Calif.) won the 1,500, crossing the line in 4:58.77. CSUSB took each of the top three spots and five of the top six spot in the event, as senior
Ximena Martinez (San Bernardino, Calif.) was second at 5:04.32 and sophomore
Aliya Hester (Menifee, Calif.) was third at 5:04.80.
The same trio also combined to take three of the top five spots in the 800. Brehm was third at 2:27.54, Hester fourth at 2:31.47, and Martinez fifth at 2:33.96.
Away from the track, junior
Kennedi Jones (San Diego, Calif.) moved up to number three on the Coyotes all-time top-10 list in the shot put, moving up to third all-time with a PR of 12.03 meters. In the discus, senior
Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.) was fifth overall at 41.41 meters.
In the jumping pits, senior
Alanah Harvard (Victorville, Calif.) was the top Yote with a leap of 9.25 meters in the triple jump, while sophomore
Sauzhane Johnson (Victorville, Calif.) was 11th in the long jump at 4.52 meters.
Johnson was also the top Coyote finisher in each hurdle event. In the 400 meter hurdles, she was fifth at 1:10.81, while she placed eighth in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.29 seconds.
Freshman
Jasmine Jaramillo (Lakewood, Calif.) was the top Coyote in a pair of sprinting events, as she was seventh in the 400 at 1:00.36 and 16th in the 200 at 26.16 seconds. She was also the third leg of the 4x400 meter relay team that placed second at 4:15.53, joined by Canseco,
Aiyana Allen-Jefferson (Riverside, Calif.), and
Marisa Windham (San Jose, Calif.).
Rounding out the top finishers were Windham at 15th in the 100 at 12.78 seconds and junior
Diana Vera (Colton, Calif.) at third in the 5,000 meter run at 19:18.03.
Next up for the Coyotes, they'll split up and compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific and the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday.
