FULLERTON, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team completed competition Friday in the Ben Brown Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
The Coyotes had a pair of top-five finishes in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, led by junior
Yoselin Canseco (San Bernardino, Calif.). Canseco moved into 10th all-time in the event for the Coyotes with a run of 12:09.49 to place fourth, while senior
Samantha Avila (Menifee, Calif.) was fifth at 12:25.55.
The 4x100 meter relay team also snagged a top-five finish, as the quartet of
La Sheau Hayden (Bakersfield, Calif.),
Coryssa Hope (Moreno Valley, Calif.),
Rymiyah Pringle-Hamilton (Oakland, Calif.), and
Skye Harris (Los Angeles, Calif.) combined to run a time of 48.05 seconds. The squad of
Cierra Ellis (Eastvale, Calif.), Pringle-Hamilton, Hope, and Hayden placed 10th in the 4x400 at 3:57.90.
Over in the jumping pits, junior
Mar'Azanae Townsend (San Diego, Calif.) was the top Coyote finisher in a pair of events. She placed 13 in the high jump with a season best 1.46 meters, while also leaping 10.39 meters in the triple jump to pace CSUSB.
Sophomore
Gianna Frank (Marysville, Wash.) returned for a strong showing in the shot put, placing eighth at 12.88 meters. Junior
Kennedi Jones (San Diego, Calif.) was 19th in the event at 11.37 meters. In the discus,
Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.) was the top finisher at 40.45 meters, while senior
Miranda Owen was close behind at 39.53 meters.
Senior
Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.) set the pace for CSUSB in the 800 meter run, placing 11th at 2:15.31.Â
The battle for top Coyote in the 100 meter dash was separated by a whopping .001 second, as Ellis edged out Hayden 12.531 to 12.532 seconds. In the 200, it was Pringle-Hamilton that led the charge for CSUSB, runing a time of 25.46 seconds.
Hope placed 25th in the 200 meter to pace CSUSB at 58.27 seconds, while sophomore
Sauzhane Johnson (Victorville, Calif.) led the charge with a time of 1:12.96 in the 400 meter hurdles. In the 100 meter hurdles, junior
Joace Warrior (Colton, Calif.) was the top Yote at 14.59 seconds.
Rounding out the day on the track was the 5,000 meter run, which was led by junior
Natalie Brazfield (San Bernardino, Calif.). Brazfield ran a time of 19:00.96
CSUSB will be back in action in a week, competing in their third and final competition at Riverside City College Open on Friday.
