CLAREMONT, Calif. - Throwers from the California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team opened their 2026 season Saturday morning, competing in the weighted throw at the OIDFE Invitational, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Sophomore
Gianna Frank (Marysville, Wash.) finished third overall in the event, setting CSUSB's school record with a distance of 13.35 meters.Â
Also finishing in the top five was senior
Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.), who finished fifth at 12.11 meters. She threw just inches further than sixth place finisher
Kennedi Jones (San Diego, Calif.), who placed sixth at 12.03 meters.Â
Senior
Miranda Owen (San Bernardino, Calif.) was the fourth Coyote finisher, recording a toss of 11.59 meters to place eighth, while junior
Sidney Sparks (Claremont, Calif.) placed 10th in her first event as a Coyote, throwing 10.99 meters. Sophomore
Madi Gutierrez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) was close behind at 10.14 meters.
Rounding out the Coyote throwers were
Melanie Radan (Las Vegas, Nev.),
Natalie Paredes (Buena Park, Calif.), and
Jaden Riggs (San Bernardino, Calif.) with tosses of 9.15, 8.54, and 8.49 meters respectively.
Next up, the Coyotes will compete in the RCC Early Bird, hosted by Riverside City College on Friday.
