TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team finished third as the CCAA Championships concluded on Saturday at the Al Brenda Track.
The Coyotes won four events on the day, starting right from the jump with the 4x100 meter relay team.
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.),
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.),
Amari Weatherford (Southeast San Diego, Calif.), and
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.) combined to run a time of 44.83 seconds to win the event.
Three members of the relay team made up the top four spots in the 100 meter dash as well. Hunt won the CCAA Championship in the event, breaking her own school record for the second time in three days, running a time of 11.30 seconds. In second was Weatherford at 11.47 seconds, while Ackerman placed fourth at 11.88 seconds.
The Yotes had five runners compete in the final of the 200 meter dash, won by Weatherford with a school record time of 23.24 seconds to claim her second CCAA Championship of the day. Hunt narrowly finished second, at 23.30 seconds, while White completed the sweep of the podium with a 23.75 time to finish third. Ackerman and Hope finished seventh and eighth respectively at 24.65 and 24.68 seconds.
The final CSUSB CCAA Championship came in the meet's final event, where the 4x400 meter relay team dominated their way to a first place finish. The squad of Hope, Hunt, White, and Weatherford won the race by nearly nine seconds, recording a time of 3:40.52.
Despite setting a school record of 53.75 seconds, White narrowly missed taking gold in the 400 meter run, finishing second. Hope was fourth in the event at 56.17 seconds, followed in fifth by junior
Briana Miller (San Bernardino, Calif.) at 58.14 seconds. In seventh, earning a couple points for the Yotes was
Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.), who ran a time of 58.23 seconds.
The first even of the day was the discus, where senior
Liz Ghazanchian (Glendale, Calif.) finished in third place with a toss of 40.21 meters. Classmate
Elizabeth Rushing (Oakdale, Calif.) was seventh in the event at 35.64 meters.
The final Coyote point-scorer on the day was senior
Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.). She placed eighth in the javelin throw at 32.87 meters.
At the conclusion of the event, Coyote junior
Miranda Owen (San Bernardino, Calif.) was named the recipient of the prestigious Elite 13 Award, given to the undergraduate student-athlete competing at each CCAA Championship with the highest cumulative grade point average. Owen currently holds a perfect 4.0 in geology at Cal State San Bernardino.
