RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team continued its season on Friday at the RCC Invitational, hosted by Riverside City College.
The Coyotes got one event win on the day, coming in the very first track event of the day, where senior
Samantha Avila (Menifee, Calif.) won the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Avila ran a time of 12:21.94 to win the event by nearly two minutes.
Junior
Joace Warrior (Colton, Calif.) had another strong outing to start her Coyote career with a pair of top-three finishes. She placed second in the 100 meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.25 seconds, while placing third with a PR of 5.66 meters in the long jump. Also in the 100 hurdles, sophomore
Sauzhane Johnson (Victorville, Calif.) ran a time of 17.03 seconds.
The Coyote relay teams picked up significant points on Friday, led by the 4x100 meter relay team.
La Sheau Hayden (Bakersfield, Calif.),
Coryssa Hope (Moreno Valley, Calif.),
Rymiyah Pringle-Hamilton (Oakland, Calif.), and
Skye Harris (Los Angeles, Calif.) combined to place second in their event with a run of 47.92 seconds, while Warriors,
Cierra Ellis (Eastvale, Calif.),
Jasmine Jaramillo (Lakewood, Calif.), and
Marisa Windham (San Jose, Calif.) placed fourth at 48.85 seconds.
The 4x400 meter squad of
Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.), Hope, Pringle-Hamilton, and Ellis placed third at 4:02.44, while Jaramillo,
Aiyana Allen-Jefferson (Riverside, Calif.),
Kasey Plumb (Mentone, Calif.), and Johnson were seventh at 4:15.58.
Marroquin also grabbed points for the Coyotes in an individual event, placing seventh in the 800 meter. It took Marroquin 2:18.61 to finish two laps around the track. The Yotes also had a pair of finishers in the top 15 of the 200 meter, with Ellis placing 11th at 25.63 and Pringle-Hamilton in 13th at 25.71. In the 100 meter dash, Hayden was the top Coyote finisher with a wind-aided sprint of 12.63 seconds.
Senior
Lidia Barrios (Perris, Calif.) was the top Coyote finisher in the 1,500 meter run at 4:56.41, finishing half a second ahead of freshman
Julia Fernandez (Indio, Calif.). Fernandez was also the top Coyote in the 3,000 meter run to cap the night, running a time of 11:03.91. Freshman
Lily Deaton (Menifee, Calif.) was close behind at 11:09.11, followed by junior
Natalie Brazfield (San Bernardino, Calif.) at 11:10.92. Jaramillo wrapped up CSUSB's top marks on the track, running a time of 1:01.09 in the 400 meter.
Cal State San Bernardino had a couple of strong marks in the discus throw. Senior
Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.) was the top Coyote in the event at 41.84 meters, while classmate
Miranda Owen (San Bernardino, Calif.) moved into the number six spot on the CSUSB all-time top-10 list with her toss of 38.97 meters. In the shotput, junior
Kennedi Jones (San Diego, Calif.) was eighth at 11.11 meters, while Sydney Sparks (Claremont, Calif.) and
Madi Gutierrez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) moved into ninth and 10th on the all-time top-10 list in the hammer respectively with throws of 38.69 and 37.85 meters.
Rounding out CSUSB's top marks for the Coyotes was junior
Mar'Azanae Townsend (San Diego, Calif.), who lept 10.06 meters in the triple jump to move up to number six on the CSUSB top-10 list.
Next up, the Coyotes will compete in their first two-day event of the season next week at Cal State Fullerton's Ben Brown Invitational starting on Thursday.
