TURLOCK, Calif. - Day two of the CCAA Championships is in the books, and the California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team has positioned itself to surge up the leaderboard on Saturday's final day.
Five Coyotes will compete in Saturday's final of the 200 meter dash after a huge showing in Friday's preliminary round. Senior
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) was the top finisher with a wind-aided time of 23.37 seconds, and was followed closely by second place finisher
Amari Weatherford (Southeast San Diego, Calif.), who ran a PR of 23.77 seconds.
Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.) was fourth at 23.96 seconds, while
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) finished sixth at 24.38. Finishing off CSUSB's qualifiers was sophomore
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), who ran a time of 24.45 seconds.
A couple of Coyotes narrowly missed qualifying of the finals in their respective events despite strong showings. Sophomore
Jordan Dennert (San Bernardino, Calif.) was ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 12:00.10, while
Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.) finished 11th in the 800 meter run at 2:17.50.
A pair of Coyotes picked up points in the shot put, with freshman
Gianna Frank (Marysville, Wash.) placing fourth at 12.68 meters, and
Mayra Mejia Haller (Fontana, Calif.) placing eighth at 11.47 meters.
In the triple jump, senior
Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) barely missed scoring points for the Yotes with a ninth place finish after a leap of 11.03 meters.
CSUSB will cap the CCAA Championships on Saturday in Turlock.
