SACRAMENTO, Calif. - For the fourth time in as many meets, another California State University San Bernardino women's track & field program record fell on Friday afternoon as the Coyotes took part in day one of the Hornet Invitational at Hornet Stadium.
Senior
Amari Weatherford (Southeast San Diego, Calif.) shattered the CSUSB program record in the 200-meter dash on Friday, running a blazing fast time of 23.41 seconds in the event. It is the fastest 200-meter time in all of Division II so far this season.
Classmate
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) finished just behind Weatherford in fourth in the event, running a time of 23.79, while sophomore
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.) had a season best time of 25.09 seconds.Â
In the 800-meter run, junior
Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.) continued her torrent spring season with another personal best. She was the top Coyote finisher in the event, running a time of 2:17.33, and now finds herself less than three seconds from the eight-year-old CSUSB program record. In the same event, juniors
Ximena Martinez (San Bernardino, Calif.) and
Lidia Barrios (Perris, Calif.), and sophomore
Ximena Torres (Moreno Valley, Calif.) all set PRs, while
Kasey Plumb (Mentone, Calif.) won her heat at 2:24.98.
In the 5,000-meter, freshman
Angela Torres (Rialto, Calif.) had an enormous PR of 59 seconds to finish as the top Coyote at 18:59.80. At 19:56.35, sophomore
Diana Vera (Colton, Calif.) had a big PR of her own, topping her previous best by 34 seconds.
The top Yote in the hammer throw was senior
Elizabeth Rushing (Oakdale, Calif.), who had a season-best heave of 44.08 meters.Â
The Yotes will wrap up the Hornet Invitational on Saturday. Both track & field events get underway at 10 a.m.
