TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team competed Thursday in day one of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships, hosted by Stanislaus State at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.
Three Coyotes scored points in the discus throw, led by second place finisher
Liz Ghazanchian (Glendale, Calif.). Ghazanchian notched a throw of 43.16 meters, narrowly edging out teammate
Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.), who placed third with a personal best heave of 42.37 meters. Rounding out CSUSB's scorers in the event was junior
Dani Lister (Lake Forest, Calif.), who finished sixth at 39.92 meters.
The only other final in which any Coyotes competed on day one was the 10,000 meter run, where graduate student
Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, Calif.) was the third place finisher with a PR of 36:55.13. She finished less than four seconds off the lead.
Junior
Kaleigh Giannone (Menifee, Calif.) competed in the first four events of the heptathlon on Thursday, and currently sits in seventh place overall. Her strongest event was the shot put, where she placed fourth with a throw of 10.02 meters.
Rounding out Cal State San Bernardino's performers on Thursday were the four Coyotes who qualified for the finals of the 200 meter dash.
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) and
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) each won their heat with sprints of 24.10 and 24.28 seconds respectively, while
Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.) and
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.) each qualified for Saturday's final with PRs of 23.82 seconds and 24.61 seconds.
The CCAA Championships will continue on Friday, starting with the heptathlon at 11 a.m. Field events will begin with the women's shot put at 1:30 p.m., while track events will start with the 100 meter hurdles at 4:15 p.m.
