PUEBLO, Colo. - Four Cal State San Bernardino track athletes made it to the 2023 NCAA Division II track and field championships, competing in the 4x100 meter relay and the 200 meter dash.
Â
CSUSB's 4X100 meter relay team set a program record in the preliminaries with a 45.59 clocking, beating the previous record of 45.82 set at the CCAA conference championships. That was good for sixth place in their heat and 11
th overall. Despite the foursome of
Mahlaya Salter,
Alexis White,
Sariyah Copeland, and
Hailey Hunt setting the school record, they did not make the finals.
Â
Copeland and White both advanced to the nationals in the 200 meter dash, but both found themselves on the outside looking in after the prelims. When the heats were finished, Copeland placed 12
th  at 23.56, just shy of her personal record of 23.38 (wind-aided) set at the CCAA championships. White was 15
th at 23.59. Both times were wind-aided. Because Copeland finished in the top 12, she earned second team All-American honors - becoming the first in program history.Â
Â
White set a new program record in the 400 meters this season, running 55.45 at a meet in April. Copeland was the first CSUSB sprinter to run under 12 seconds in the 100 meters, timed in 11.95. Hunt beat that mark with an 11.94 clocking.
Â
CSUSB finished fourth overall in the CCAA championships in 2023.
Â
Azusa Pacific University of the PacWest Conference won the women's title with 66 points. Cal Poly Pomona, the CCAA champion the past two years, wound up 16
th in the field of 59 teams.
