FULLERTON, Calif. – The women's 4x100 meter relay team set a new record for the track and field program, clocking in a 47.53 seconds Saturday at the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton.
The old mark of 47.78 was set on April 22, 2022. CSUSB finished fourth in the event, competing against mostly NCAA Division I teams.
Sariyah Copeland led the sprint corps, finishing ninth in the 100 meters in 12.19, just off her top time of 12.11 set in 2022, but improved to third place in the 200 meters, timed in 24.77, again just off her program best of 24.58 set in 2022.
Hailey Hunt moved into second place on the all-time Coyotes performance list with a 12.21 time in the 100 meters, good for 10
th place in the race.
Sierra Stokes moved into 10
th on the all-time Coyotes performance list with a 26.12 time in the 200.
The CSUSB 4X400 relay team posted the sixth best time on the all-time performance list with a 4:01.40 clocking, good for seventh place on Saturday.
Junior
Kyndahl Carter stepped up in the 100 hurdles with a 15.21 time, good enough to move into third place on the all-time Coyotes performance list. She already is the No. 2 best hurdler in program history with a 14.91 clocking earlier this season.
Payton McCartney tied Jazmine Jones (2016) for fifth place on the 100 hurdles performance list with her 16.10 finish Saturday.
Kaleigh Giannone's 16.94 time moved her into sixth place all-time ahead of Tori Wiley (2019).
Na'kel Pennix-Webb's 1:03.74 time in the 400 intermediate hurdles moved her into second place on the all-time Coyotes career list just behind all-time leader Casie Johnson's 2017 time of 1:03.29.
Aiyana Allen-Jefferson moved into the No. 3 position with a time of 1:04.64.
In the hammer throw,
Elizabeth Rushing, CSUSB's No. 3 all-time in the event at 144 feet, 11 inches, was the best of the CSUSB throwers in Friday night's action with a throw of 134 feet, 7 inches.
Abby Venglass had a best throw of 130 feet even, well below her all-time best of 149 feet, 2 inches.
Melissa Fongod moved into the top 10 with a throw of 114 feet, 3 inches.
Venglass competed in the shotput and finished 25
th with a heave of 36 feet and a quarter inch.
Danielle Lister was 28
th at 34 feet, 8.5 inches. Both were top 10 marks on the all-time performance list. There was no discus toss contested.
OCCIDENTAL DISTANCE CARNIVAL
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - A contingent of Cal State San Bernardino distance runners competed against a strong field of NCAA Div. I, II and III teams on Saturday at Occidental College.
Kai Marroquin finished 12
th in the 800 meters in 2:26.49.
Joanna Lopez was 21
st in a competitive 1,500 meters in 4:43.87,
Caty Gaynor wound up seventh in an eight-runner field in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:44.83.
Alexis Wallace was scratched from the 5000-meter run.
