The Yotes of Cal State San Bernardino competed at the Chris Rinne Twilight meet hosted at UC Riverside in Riverside, California. This was the last meet for the Coyotes prior to the CCAA Championships held at San Francisco State University on May 5th-7th.
Tayler Salley and Abby Venglass competed in the women's hammer to start off the day, placing 5th and 7th respectively. Salley was the highest Div-II placer in the field. Salley has earned the highest Div-II placer in every meet she competed in this season. She also has 3 meet victories in the hammer on the year as well.
In the last event before the track events got underway, Destiny Colton and Journie Alexander competed in the long jump. Alexander finished 9th in the event with her first and best jump of the day at 5.13m (16'10'').
With the first event on the track for the Yotes, the team of Journie Alexander, Maame Banahene, Sariyah Copeland, and Maya Price got the baton around the track in a time of 47.78, bettering their previous school record set this year at the Ben Brown Invitational. This time placing them 3rd overall in the event and ahead of two other CCAA schools; CSU Los Angeles and CSU Dominguez Hills.
In the 1500m, Joanna Lopez ran a personal best in the event in a time of 4:59.20. She is the first CSUSB athlete this year to break the 5-minute barrier. Lopez placed 9th in the event overall. Miranda Avila also ran a personal best in the event as well crossing the line in time of 5:07.73.
A trio of yotes competed in the 400m dash. Ladaijah Wright ran a near season's best time of 1:00.61 followed closely by Maame Banahene in a season's best time of 1:00.73. Alexandria Owens, running in a heat all by herself, crossed the line in a personal best time of 1:01.13.
Along with her performance in the 4x100m, Maya Price achieved season's bests in the high jump (1.55m, 5'1'') and in the 100m (12.47). Journie Alexander in addition to the 4x100m and long jump competed in the 100m and 200m, achieving times of 12.64 and 25.92. Her 200m time earned her the 5th all-time performance at CSUSB and a personal best in the event.
Destiny Colton, in addition to her competing in the long jump earlier in the day, also competed in the triple jump. She bettered her fourth best CSUSB mark in the event to a distance of 9.94m (32'7.5''). she would finish 8th in the event.
Sariyah Copeland ran near season's best in both the 100m and 200m achieving times of 12.14 and 24.68 respectively. Kaleigh Giannone competed in the 400m hurdle event racing to a time of 1:07.13, finishing as the highest Div-II placer in the event.
In the 800m, five different Yotes crossed the line with a seasons or personal best time, led by Savannah Milner in a time of 2:24.72. Joanna Lopez (2:29.28), Genesis Obispo (2:37.85), Khloe Bracken (2:48.18) and Sonia Tuia (2:57.49) all raced to personal bests in the event. Nicole Renteria raced in the 5000m race and ran a near season's best time of 19:03.94, only a half second off her personal best in the event.
In the last event of the night, the team of Banahene, Giannone, Wright, and Owens, raced in the 4x400m crossing the line in a time of 4:01.46, just crossing the line and edging out host University of California Riverside's relay (4:01.48). This team achieved the 6th best time in CSUSB history and the 3rd best time CSUSB has ran this year.
The next event for the CSUSB Coyotes is the CCAA Championships held at San Francisco State University May 5th-7th.
