MARYSVILLE, Calif. – The CSUSB men's golf team tied for fourth place in the Wildcat Classic earlier this week to open up their 2022-23 season. The event hosted 11 teams for a total of 66 golfers on a 72-par course.
Mark Williams placed the highest for the Yotes, finishing the invitational tied for 7
th place overall. After breaking even at par in the first round, Williams shot three-under par and four-under par in the second and third rounds, respectively. This allowed the La Quinta native to finish with a -7 on the tournament.
"Mark Williams played exceptionally well this week and helped lift us into a T4 finish. Mark is a very steady player and can always be counted on to show up for his team. I look forward to watching what he can accomplish this season." - Head Coach Kyle Emerson
Jetty Sivongsay and
Brian Nielsen finished next for the Yotes, both tying for 29
th place. Sivongsay shot two under par in the first round and even at par in the third. Nielsen hit par in both the first two rounds, before going three-over in the third round. In total, both Sivongsay and Nielsen finished +3 on the tournament.
"This was our first tournament out for the fall. While our guys played OK, there was some obvious rust that needed removing. We are not satisfied with the results this week but we will keep working to get better." - Coach Emerson
