BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The California State University San Bernardino men's golf team saw its historic NCAA Tournament run come to a close on Thursday morning, falling to the University of Missouri St. Louis 4.5-0.5 in the national quarterfinal at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Coyotes finished the tournament as the only team in the West Region to reach the medal match play, reserved for the top eight teams in stroke play at the NCAA Division II Championships.Â
The Tritons shot the best round of the entire tournament against the Coyotes, going 23 strokes under par for the round.
The Coyotes got their lone half point from sophomore Tyler Price (Yucaipa, Calif.), who tied his match. He shot a three-under 69 on the day.
Juniors Kamron Hopson (Redlands, Calif.) and Marco Lin (Taoyuan, Taiwan) each shot rounds of four-under par 68, but each of their opponents turned in scores of seven-under 65.
Rounding out the Coyotes were Aaron Parayno (Fresno, Calif.), who shot even par to his opponent's six-under 66, and Mario Stump (Benicia, Calif.), who was two-over to his opponent's two-under.
CSUSB's appearance in the match play section of the NCAA Tournament was its first since 2009.
