CLAREMONT, Calif. - The CSUSB Yotes competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invite on October 8
th. They were one of 14 teams who competed on the day featuring several nationally-ranked SCIAC schools and one fellow CCAA school, Cal Poly Pomona. With ideal weather on a traditionally tough course, the team as a whole finished in 7
th place overall at the event with a team total of 190 points.
Alexis Wallace led the team with a top 10 finish in a time of 22:14.2. This is her 3
rd top 10 finish this season and was less than 5 seconds off her lifetime best at the distance achieved earlier this year at the Otter Invite.
"I ran really well today, I tried to take it out a little bit more conservatively. I think that helped me pass up some girls." – Alexis Wallace
Joanna Lopez crossed the line in a time of 23:43.1. This was a 22 second improvement from her previous course PR at this very meet last year.
Kai Marroquin and
Miranda Avila sprinted to the finish in a time of 24:00.1 and 24:01.1, respectively.
"I think I went out a little too fast overall, but I think I was able to hold it off pretty well. Towards the end I kicked it just to get the race over and see how much speed I had. Miranda (Avila) pushed me a lot to a strong finish." – Kai Marroquin
Helena Valdez rounded out the top 5 for the team with a time of 25:10.6.
Maria Rojas and
Arlene Castro were not far behind crossing the line in times of 25:29.6 and 25:35.3 respectively. That marks a personal best at the distance of 58 seconds for Castro.
