Ethan Chapman went 5-for-5 as the Coyotes gave RHP starter
Aaron Brooks all sorts of support in a 6-3 victory over visiting Cal Poly Pomona in the teams' CCAA series opener Thursday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
The Coyotes improved to 16-15 overall and 13-10 in the CCAA, while the Broncos slipped to 23-13, 16-13.
Trailing 2-0 through three innings, the Coyotes struck with two, three-run innings and junior RHP reliever
Josh Pond earned his single-season record-tying 11th save on the year by retiring the side in order in the ninth.

Eric Dow's sacrifice fly that scored
Bryce Holland, who led off the inning with a triple. One out later, Chapman reached base on his third consecutive single and
Erik Ornelas was hit by pitch. Silvas connected off Broncos' starter Erick Ruvalcaba and the Coyotes took the lead for good at 3-2.
In the seventh, Chapman doubled to lead off the inning and Ornelas followed with a single. That brought up Silvas, who ripped a double off Broncos reliever Michael Parker and the Coyotes led 5-2. One out later,
Brandon Day's RBI-single scored Silvas.
The Broncos added a single run in the eighth, but it wasn't enough.
Brooks improved to 3-6, scattering nine hits and striking out five in eight innings.
