SAN BERNARDINO --
Matt Winn hit a solo home run for Cal State San Bernardino, but the Coyotes were stopped Friday, 5-1 in their CCAA game against Cal State Dominguez Hills at Fiscalini Field.
The Coyotes, now 10-10 overall and 7-5 in the CCAA, will complete the weekend series at Carson on Saturday with a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
The Toros scored twice in the first inning and added three in the sixth and those runs were enough for Josh Corrales. He improved to 3-1 on the year as he threw eight innings, scattered 12 hits and struck out seven.
Trailing 2-0, Winn put the Coyotes to within a run with a solo home run in the fourth.
Down 5-1, the Coyotes scored twice in the ninth.
Matt Haney's two-out single scored
Ethan Chapman and
David Silvas.
Chapman finished with three hits -- all singles and
Erik Ornelas, Silvas,
Brandon Dayand
Eric Dow all had two hits apiece. Ornelas had the only other extra-base hit on the day -- a double.
Cory Caruso took the loss. He threw 5 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits, and all five runs were earned. He struck out three and did not issue a walk.
Relievers
Trevor Longfellow and
Kyle Krogman combined to throw 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
CSUDH is now 9-16, 5-13.
