SAN BERNARDINO
-- Cal State San Bernardino received timely hitting from any number of Coyotes on Thursday afternoon as they defeated Cal State Dominguez Hills 10-2 in the series opener at Fiscalini Field.

The Coyotes won their fourth straight game and improved to 10-9 overall and 7-4 in the CCAA. The Toros are 8-16, 4-13.

Junior RHP Aaron Brooks was solid in his eight innings of work with 10 strikeouts and received more than enough support as he improved to 2-4 on the season. He allowed just four hits and issued his first base on balls of the season -- ending his streak of 39 1/3 innings without a walk.

The Coyotes totaled 15 hits off Toros pitching -- tying their best effort at the plate this season.

Tied at 2-2 through five innings, the Coyotes got the lead for good with a three-run sixth. Brandon Day broke the tie with a sacrifice fly that drove in David Silvas, who led off with a single. That brought up Virgil Chavira, who ripped a two-run shot over the left-field wall and CSUSB led 5-2.

CSUSB added a single run in the seventh on Silvas' run-scoring single that scored Erik Ornelas who reached on a fielder's choice.

The Coyotes added four runs in the eighth -- capped by Eric Dow's three-run home run to left center.

Chavira was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Silvas was 3-for-5. Sophomore Ethan Chapman had a triple and a double and Nick Heusterberg had two doubles.

The series continues at Fiscalini Field on Friday with first pitch at 3 p.m. The series moves to Carson on Saturday with a doubleheader that begins at 11 a.m.
