POMONA -- Cal Poly Pomona took advantage of a cold-shooting Cal State San Bernardino women's team Tuesday night for a wire-to-wire 63-46 victory over the Coyotes in a CCAA conference game in Kellogg Gym.
The victory improved the Broncos to 5-1 in the CCAA and 9-2 overall while the Coyotes are now 3-4 in conference play and 7-5 overall.
Senior guard Krystal Urzua was half of CSUSB's offense and their defensive leader as well with 22 points, nine rebounds and three steals. She hit three of seven 3-pointers, but was just six for 17 from the field in the game.
Sophomore center Emily Vore came off the bench to score 10 points and grab four rebounds for the second straight game.
All-CCAA guard Reyana Colson led the Broncis with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists while CCAA player of the week Stephisha Walton had 16 points and five rebounds. Megan Ford finished with 12 points and six rebounds as the Broncos outrebounded CSUSB 42-29.
Outside of Urzua and Vore, the Coyotes offered very little in terms of offense. Junior Kymberly Ooten, who had 20 points and 13 rebounds against Sonoma State, finished with just six points, three rebounds and turned the ball over five times, giving her 13 turnovers in her last two outings. Junior Amanda Ragains, who had 19 points and 21 rebounds against Humboldt State last Friday, failed to score.
Lisa Takata had five assists and three steals for CSUSB.
The Coyotes shot just 29 percent for the game (16 of 56) and just 21 percent from the three (3 of 14) and 61 percent from the foul line (11 of 18) and committed 18 turnovers.
The Broncos shot 44 percent from the field (22 of 56) but were in a deep freeze from outside the three-point line (1 of 12 -- 8.3 percent), but they didn't need those points, because they made 12 of 14 free throws (86 percent).
Cal Poly Pomona moved out to a 36-21 hafltime lead and led by as much as 25 points early in the second half before the Coyotes cut the lead down to 15 at 55-40 on back-to-back threes by Urzua.
CSUSB returns home Friday to host Cal State L.A. at 5:35 p.m. followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills at the same time on Saturday night.
