Dario Frias Named 10th Head Coach of CSUSB Women’s Basketball

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - California State University San Bernardino Athletics is proud to announce that Dario Frias has been named the head coach of the University's women's basketball program.

The new role is Frias's second stint at Cal State San Bernardino, after he previously spent three seasons at CSUSB as an assistant coach under Renee Jimenez from 2013-2016.

After departing Cal State San Bernardino a decade ago, Frias spent eight years under Jimenez at CCAA foe Cal State San Marcos, and at Division I UC Santa Barbara.

"I am beyond honored and incredibly excited to be named the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Cal State San Bernardino," said Frias. "This opportunity is truly special to me. Not only because of the program, but because CSUSB is home. As a proud alumnus, this University helped shape who I am today, and the chance to return and lead is something I don't take lightly."

At San Marcos, Frias helped the Cougars to three CCAA Regular Season Championships and two CCAA Tournament Championships. He helped lead the team to four consecutive NCAA West Region Tournament appearances, including a West Region Championship and Division II Final Four appearance in his final season in 2024.

Frias continued to find success after transitioning to UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos had back-to-back winning seasons with Frias on the staff, including a 20-win season this past year. He served as the coaching staff's recruiting coordinator, and helped to land two of the nation's top 100 recruits.

Before his first stint at CSUSB, he spent one season as an assistant coach at the University of La Verne and six seasons as the head coach at Jurupa Valley High School.

Frias is an active member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and serves on the board of the Latino Association of Basketball Coaches.

Frias is a graduate of Cal State San Bernardino. He received his bachelor's degree in liberal studies in 2005, and finished his Master's in teaching at National University in 2012.

"I am ready to get to work building a culture rooted in high academics, discipline, and excellence both on and off the court," Frias said. "I can't wait to pour into our student-athletes and represent this University with pride. Thank you to Vice President Paz Olivérez and Shareef Amer, Director of Athletics, for their trust and belief in me. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and excited for what's ahead. A special thanks as well to my wife, Kelli, and my sons, Noah, Dylan, and Jordan, for their unwavering support. I'm also deeply grateful to Renee Jimenez for her mentorship and guidance throughout our amazing coaching journey."

"I am so incredibly happy for Dario as he steps into his dream job at Cal State San Bernardino - it's something he's worked hard for and truly deserves," said Jimenez. "I can't thank him enough for all he has poured into our programs, our student-athletes, and me personally. His impact goes far beyond wins and losses. I am so incredibly proud of the coach and leader he has become and I know he is going to do amazing things. I am also so happy for him and his family as they begin this next chapter. We'll be cheering him on every step of the way."

"I'm thrilled to appoint Dario Frias to the women's basketball head coaching role at Cal State San Bernardino," said Director of Athletics Shareef Amer. "Coach Frias has a proven track record at multiple levels, and has won everywhere he has been. We look forward to welcoming him and his family back to CSUSB. I'm fully confident that Coach Frias will elevate this program into a championship contender. I look forward to seeing our women's basketball student-athletes thriving academically and athletically under his leadership."
