Cal State San Bernardino took advantage of a cold-shooting Sonoma State team in the second half to register a 58-47 CCAA conference women's basketball victory over the Seawolves Saturday night in Coussoulis Arena.
The victory improved the Coyotes, winners of three of their last four games, to 10-14 overall and 8-10 in the CCAA while the Seawolves dropped to 9-16 overall and 5-13 in the CCAA.
Sophomore guard
Lisa Takata had a game-high 15 points to go with five steals and two assists for the Coyotes while junior guard
Krystal Urzua totaled 13 points and three assists. Senior
Jaclyn Rainville contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals.
Lauren Redfield led the Seawolves with 12 points while Olivia Larkin came off the bench to score 11 points in 17 minutes of play.
Sonoma rallied from an 18-8 deficit in the first half , outscoring the Coyotes 21-6 to take a 29-24 halftime lead to the locker room.
However, the Seawolves went stone cold in the second half, hitting just four of 23 field goal attempts (17 percent) while the Coyotes hit 11 of 26 attempts (42 percent). CSUSB outrebounded the Seawolves 35-32 and forced 17 Sonoma turnovers. SSU had just eight assists on the night.
Takata's jumper at the 16:22 mark of the second half put CSUSB in the lead at 30-29 and CSUSB pushed the lead to 12 points at 8:56 on a three-pointer by senior
Rachel Johnson. Another Johnson trey put CSUSB up 51-37 with 5:54 left..
