LA JOLLA – Top-ranked Cal State San Bernardino swept past two opponents Friday on the first day of the 2008 UC San Diego Tritons Women's Volleyball Tournament, defeating Seattle Pacific University and Notre Dame de Namur by identical 3-0 scores.
The Coyotes, ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II, are now 5-0 as they prepare to face 24th-ranked BYU-Hawaii and Lynn University on Saturday at RIMAC Arena on the UCSD campus at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
All-American
Jessica Granados, the NCAA D-2 player of the week for her MVP performance in the 2008 Coyote Classic last weekend, led the Coyotes' win over Seattle Pacific with 17 kills on .393 hitting and seven digs. CSUSB won the first and third games easily 25-12 and 25-14, but struggled to take game two at 28-26.
Sophomore outside hitter
Jane Chafeh had a big match for the Coyotees with 14 kills on .429 hitting with two blocks. The Coyotes hit .375 as a team. All-America setter
Sara Hoffman had 45 assists. Paige Hoffman led the Falcons (1-5) with eight kills on .462 hitting.
In the late match against Notre Dame de Namur, the Coyotes won handily 25-13, 25-20 and 25-18 over the winless Argonauts (0-7).
