Coyotes roll over SFSU, 15-0

CSUSB sweeps series, extending win streak to six

David Martin allowed just one hit in six innings, striking out nine to get the win Sunday, 15-0, over S.F. State
SAN FRANCISCO -- Four Cal State San Bernardino pitchers combined on a one-hitter and the Coyotes pummeled San Francisco State hurlers for 17 hits Sunday en route to a 15-0 CCAA conference baseball victory over the Gators to sweep their four-game series.
The Coyotes have now won six straight and nine of their last 11, lifting their season record to 22-19 and their CCAA record to 13-15 heading into this coming week's four-game series with Cal State L.A., starting Thursday in Los Angeles. The last-place Gators are now 7-33-1, 1-23 in the conference.
David Martin, usually a middle relief pitcher for the Coyotes, came out of the bullpen to start Sunday's game and allowed just one hit in six innings, striking out nine and walking only two for his first victory of 2008. Relievers David McCarthy, Eric Meyerholtz and James O'Neill each pitched one hitless inning to finish off the combined one-hitter.
Meanwhile, the Coyote hitters gave Martin a 8-0 lead after three innings. Brent Planck and Jason Klug each had three hits in five at-bats while Johnnie Haas hit a three-run homer and drove in five runs in the game. Klug hit his ninth home run of the season and his 14th double of the season driving in three runs to give him a team-leading 55 on the season.
Haas heads into the L.A. series batting .386 on the season with five homers and 29 RBI while Klug is hitting .353 with nine homers and 55 RBI. Mike Minjares stole another base Sunday to give him a team-leading 15 on the season.
CSUSB came up with 38 runs and 49 hits in the four game series, increasing the team batting average to .282 from .276 at the start of the series.
Minjares and Billy Haynes each scored three runs. All that scoring and it could have been worse had the Coyotes not stranded 11 runners on base.
