Seawolves now 9-0 in CCAA; finale Sunday at noon

Sonoma State continued its winning ways in the CCAA conference Saturday, sweeping a doubleheader from Cal State San Bernardino -- 3-2 in 11 innings and 7-3, to improve to 9-0 in the conference and 20-1 overall.
The Coyotes are now 2-8 in CCAA play and 10-11 overall, slipping below .500 for the first time this season after an 8-3 start.
The Seawolves will try to get the broom out for a sweep when the two teams meet at noon Sunday for the series finale at Arrowhead Credit Union Park.
In the 11-inning opener, Cheyne Hann pitched a solid seven innings, giving up just five hits, one run and striking out five, leaving with a 2-1 lead. However, SSU got even at 2-2 in the eighth and won it in the top of the 11th when Mark Pestorich scored from second on a single by Nick Nosti that was bobbled in right field for an error.
Seawolves relievers Nick O'Brien and Travis Babin pitched four innings of one-hit relief with Babin picking up his third save. Michael Leal (0-2) took the loss for CSUSB. Johnnie Haas, Jason Klug and Justin Watson each had two hits in the game.
In game two, Sonoma State erupted for seven runs in the second inning, capped by a two-run triple by Kyle Jones off Coyotes starter Trevor Longfellow and reliever Ernie Medina. Chad Borowski restored order and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and no runs.
CSUSB got three runs off SSU starter Rashad Tucker, only one of which was earned. The Coyotes had only five hits in the game but all three runs came in the second. Matt Garnett came out of the bullpen to pitch 3.2 innings of two-hit relief to silence the Coyotes bats.
    Sonoma won Friday's opener 14-9.
