ROHNERT PARK -- A CCAA conference women's soccer match between two of the NCAA West Region's top-five teams wound up, perhaps fittingly, in a draw as Cal State San Bernardino (No. 5) and No. 3 Sonoma State battled to a 2-2 deadlock after two overtimes.
The Coyotes and Seawolves each picked up a point in the standings. CSUSB is now 7-3-3 overall and 5-2-2 in the CCAA South Division, good for 17 points. Sonoma State (No. 3) is now 9-3-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the CCAA North Division with 16 points.
The host Seawolves outshot CSUSB 14-3 and Coyotes goalkeeper
Laura Lyons made three saves of shots on goal in the 110-minute match. Courtney Grixti was called upon to save only one shot of the three that the Coyotes took.
Taylor Colacion put SSU up 1-0 in the eighth minute with an assist from Libby Moyer but CSUSB drew even in the 43rd minute when a ball deflected off a Seawolves defender and found the SSU net.
The Coyotes grabbed the lead in the 71st minute on an unassisted goal by freshman
Kristina Gomez, her second of the season, but the Seawolves got the equalizer in the 75th minute when Lindsay Catton's free kick found the net for her seventh goal of the season.
CSUSB had no recorded shots in the two overtimes while the Seawolves attempted four shots. Taylor Edmonds had a solid chance to score late in extra time, but her shot hit the cross bar. Jaci Davey corraled the rebound but her shot went wide.
The tie was the first in the all-time series between the two teams. Sonoma leads the series at 13-3-1.
The Coyotes continue their road trip at Humboldt State on Sunday for a 2 p.m. match with the Lumberjacks.
