SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team opened its season with a 1-1 draw against Westmont College Monday afternoon in a non-conference matchup at Thorrington Field.
With the draw, the Coyotes open their season at 0-0-1.
The Warriors wasted no time breaking the ice, scoring the game's first goal just over three minutes into the contest.Â
The early Westmont tally was just about the only offensive threat the Warriors made all afternoon. The Coyotes outshot Westmont 11-2 in the opening 45 minutes, but still trailed 1-0.
The Coyotes finally got on the board on a
Jackie Fuentes penalty kick in the 73rd minute. Junior
Jordan Goldstein drew a foul in the box, which was confirmed by video replay. Fuentes stepped up and fired a shot off the right post that caromed into the left side of the next for the late equalizer.
Neither team was able to find the winner in the final 17 minutes of the game, and the contest ended at 1-1.
Playing in her first collegiate game, freshman
Austyn Brooks made one save to earn the draw.
The Yotes will continue their season-opening road trip at Vanguard on Thursday. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. from Costa Mesa.
