IRVINE, Calif. - California State University San Bernardino women's soccer fell 1-0 to No. 13 Concordia University Irvine Saturday night in a non-conference matchup at Golden Eagles Field.
With the loss, the Yotes move to 1-1-1 on the season.
Concordia scored the lone goal of the match in the sixth minute. The Golden Eagles broke forward on a counterattack that CSUSB initially recovered from, but a misplaced pass allowed Concordia to regain possession. Bella Barrett then played a through ball behind the Yotes' back line to Ashley Grubert, who finished into the lower-left corner to give CUI a 1-0 lead.
The Yotes settled into the match and continued to create chances throughout the night. They entered halftime trailing 1-0 after outshooting Concordia 8-7 before adding 12 more shots in the second half in search of the equalizer. Jackie Fuentes and Raylene Alcaraz led the attack with four shots apiece, but the Yotes were unable to find the tying goal.
San Bernardino finished with a 20-13 advantage in shots and put eight attempts on goal compared to seven for Concordia.
Freshman goalkeeper Austyn Brooks made six saves for CSUSB, holding the Golden Eagles scoreless over the final 84 minutes.
Next up, the Yotes will wrap up their four-game season-opening road trip on Saturday, September 12, taking on Biola at 7 p.m. at Al Barbour Field in La Mirada.
