L.A. hands Coyotes women a 1-0 loss

First-half goal holds up for tournament-bound Golden Eagles

Senior Jacqueline Reyes finished her CSUSB career against Cal State L.A.
A first-half goal by Christine Buenrostro was enough for CCAA tournament-bound Cal State L.A. to eke out a 1-0 women's soccer victory over host Cal State San Bernardino Monday in the season home finale at Coyote Premier Field.
In a match postponed three times by wind, fire and foul air, the Golden Eagles improved to 13-4-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the CCAA as they get ready to compete in the CCAA tournament starting Friday.
The Coyotes are now 8-6-3, 4-6-1 in the CCAA.
Buenrostro's third goal of the season was aided by a through ball from Liz Franco and it came in the 33rd minute. CSUSB junior goalkeeper Laura Lyons saved two other shots on goal -- from Erica Thomas and Dana Menard.
The Coyotes had their chances. Sophomore Ashley Salas' header off a corner kick went right to CSULA keeper Reyna Coca who recorded her eighth shutout of the season. Junior defender Sophie Bruins had a long try that was fielded by Coca in front of the goal.
Before the match, the Coyotes honored their lone senior, Jacqueline Reyes of Upland who was a starting midfielder-defender for CSUSB for two seasons after transferring from Mount San Antonio College.
