CARSON, Calif. - California State University San Bernardino women's soccer remained in first place in the CCAA with a 4-1 road victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills Thursday evening at Toro Stadium.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 8-2-3 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 7-0-2.
CSUSB opened the scoring at 4:49 following a short corner from the left side. Junior midfielder Reagan Parkhill played a quick pass to senior midfielder Raylene Alcaraz, who immediately returned it. Parkhill then delivered a cross to the back post, where junior defender Sydney Montgomery finished for her first goal of the season.
Junior forward Jordan Goldstein doubled the lead in the 30th minute after fifth-year midfielder Unieque Solis-Marquina's shot was saved onto the crossbar. Goldstein crashed the box and put away the rebound for her second goal of the season.
Solis-Marquina decided to add a goal to her afternoon less than four minutes later. Fifth-year defender Ruby Segura powered down the right sideline and cut inside before setting up Solis-Marquina, who found the upper left corner for her first goal of the season. The finish gave CSUSB a 3-0 lead in the 33rd minute.
At halftime, CSUSB held a 7-4 edge in shots and a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal to go along with its three-goal lead.
The Toros broke through in the 80th minute, delivering a well-placed cross beyond the reach of the CSUSB defense for a header into the back of the net. The goal cut the deficit to 3-1 and denied senior goalkeeper Bella Ortiz a third consecutive clean sheet.
Four minutes later, the Yotes' cushion went back up to three when Montgomery sent a ball forward from near midfield to Goldstein, who headed it to junior forward Maya Alston. Alston finished into the lower-left corner for her third goal of the season, capping the scoring in the 4-1 victory.
Ortiz made one save in 81 minutes to improve to 7-1-2 on the season. Freshman goalkeeper Austyn Brooks played the final nine minutes and added a save in the closing minute.
Next up, CSUSB returns to Premier Field to host Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
