RIVERSIDE, Calif. - For the first time since 2009, the California State University San Bernardino men's golf team is head to the NCAA National Championships.
After posting the final round's second best team score of eight-under par, the Coyotes finished the tournament at -25, placing fifth in the 20-team field to reach the NCAA Champiosnships for the first time in 16 years.
Senior
John Kim (Palm Desert, Calif.) turned in his best round of the tournament and CSUSB's low round for the day with a bogey-free 67. He finished the tournament tied for sixth overall.
A three-under 69 from freshman
Tyler Price (Yucaipa, Calif.) was good for CSUSB's second lowest round on Saturday. Price made two birdies on each the front and back nines, as well as a key eagle on the par-five 13th to finish the tournament tied for eighth.
Junior
Chris Wardrup's (La Quinta, Calif.) bid for the individual championship after a surge from Oklahoma Christian's Oskari Nikku, but Wardrup's 70 was good to tie for third at the tournament overall, with a three-day score of 12-under par.
Graduate student
Jetty Sivongsay (Fullerton, Calif.) and freshman
Aaron Parayno (Fresno, Calif.) rounded out CSUSB's scorers with scores of 74 and 76 respectively.
The NCAA Championships will be played starting Tuesday, May 20 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
