SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team saw another massive school record fall in the 4x100 meter relay on Saturday as the Coyotes competed in meets at both Azusa Pacific University and Mt. San Antonio College.
The Yotes got their day off to an enormous start at APU, as the 4x100 meter relay team of
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.),
Amari Weatherford (Southeast San Diego, Calif.),
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), and
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) combined to run a school record time of 44.69 seconds, the fastest time in Division II this season. The team finished second overall in the event, and first among NCAA competition, including multiple Division I institutions as large as the Big Ten's University of Minnesota.
A handful of other Coyotes competed at Azusa Pacific, where junior
Cierra Ellis (Eastvale, Calif.) was the top finisher in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.26 seconds. She was the second finisher in Coyote blue in the 400 meter run at 58.53 seconds, behind only
Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.), who ran a 58.10.
In the shot put, freshman
Gianna Frank (Marysville, Wash.) placed 11th overall with a heave of 12.66 meters, while senior
Mayra Mejia Haller (Fontana, Calif.) moved into the number two spot on the CSUSB all-time list with a PR of 12.07 meters. She joins only Frank and former teammate
Dani Lister as the only three Yotes to ever eclipse 12 meters in the shot put.
After an outstanding morning session in Azusa, the Coyote sprinters made the short 15-minute drive to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays, and it was there that the relay team of Hope, Hunt, Weatherford, and
Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.) moved into third nationally with a blazing fast run of 3:39.22. It is the second fastest time in Coyote program history.
The Yotes had two top-five finishers in the 100 meter dash, as Weatherford matched her season-best of 11.57 to finish fourth, while Hunt was six one-hundredths of a second behind in fifth at 11.63 seconds. Hunt also placed second overall in the 200 meter dash, matching her PR at 23.49 seconds. Hope also PRed in the event at 24.40, moving from seventh to fifth on the all-time top 10 list.
Rounding out CSUSB's top Coyote finishers on the day was White, who placed 14th in the 400 meter run at 55.46 seconds.
A select group will round out CSUSB women's track & field's busy week when they compete in the elite section of the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday.
