CLAREMONT, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team competed Saturday in the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
The Coyotes got one first place finish, coming in the shot put, where freshman
Gianna Frank (Marysville, Wash.) took the top spot with a toss of 12.80 meters. Two other Yotes were in the top 14 of the event, with
Liz Ghazanchian (Glendale, Calif.) finishing 12th at 10.17 and
Mayra Mejia Haller (Fontana, Calif.) placing 14th at 10.05.
Ghazanchian also had a strong showing in the discus, where she placed third with a throw of 39.67 meters. She was one of two Coyote field athletes to place third in their respective events, as senior
Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) took bronze in the long jump. She tied a PR with a leap of 5.55 meters, while also placing 12th in the triple jump at 10.64 meters.
Among other throwers,
Jaclyn Brown (Simi Valley, Calif.) placed seventh in the javelin at 32.43 meters, while
Elizabeth Rushing (Oakdale, Calif.) was 15th in the hammer at 39.49 meters, and Ghazanchian was 19th at 37.31.
Over on the track, the Yotes had two top-10 finishers in the 400-meter.
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.) had a big PR in the event to place third, the second fastest 400 in CSUSB history. In 10th was junior
Briana Miller (San Bernardino, Calif.) at 57.76 seconds.
Also placing in the top-10 was
Cierra Ellis (Eastvale, Calif.) in the 100-meter dash. She was eighth at 12.38 seconds. Miller was the top Coyote in the 200-meter dash, placing 16th at 25.58 seconds.
A pair of Yotes dazzled in the 400 meter hurdles, where
Sauzhane Johnson (Victorville, Calif.) placed fifth at 1:07.63 and
Aiyana Allen-Jefferson (Riverside, Calif.) placed sixth at 1:08.47. The times, both PRs for the respective athletes, were the fourth and fifth fastest times in program history, respectively.
In distance events,
Liana Brehm (Menifee, Calif.) was the top Coyote in the 800 at 2:32.85,
Amanda Lynch (San Bernardino, Calif.) was the top finisher in the 1,500 at 5:14.95, and
Angela Torres (Rialto, Calif.) was the top Yote in the 5k at 19:54.70.
Next up, the Coyotes will take part in three different meets this week, starting with the Mt. SAC Relays and Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday.
