FULLERTON, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team completed competition Saturday at the Ben Brown Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
For the third week in a row, freshman
Gianna Frank (Marysville, Wash.) broke her own school record in the shot put, notching a toss of 13.00 meters to place fifth overall in the event.
Senior
Amari Weatherford (Southeast San Diego, Calif.), the reigning CCAA Track Athlete of the Week, had another enormous day for CSUSB. She won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes on the day, with times of 11.51 and 23.78 seconds respectively. Her 100-meter time was enough for a program record, but unfortunately the time was wind-aided and not eligible for NCAA or institutional records.Â
Weatherford was also one of four legs in the 4x100 meter relay, along with
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.),
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.), and
Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.)Â that finished first at 45.29 seconds. The time was good for a meet record that had stood for 13 years.
Also in the 100-meter dash, Hunt placed second at 11.65 seconds, while Ackerman was eighth at 11.94 seconds. in the 400-meter, White was the third place finisher at 55.49 seconds, while
Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.) PRed with a time of 57.21 seconds.Â
Junior
Aiyana Allen-Jefferson (Riverside, Calif.) had a CCAA Championship qualifying performance in the 400-meter hurdles, running a time of 1:09.97. In the 100-meter hurdles, freshman
Sauzhane Johnson (Victorville, Calif.) PRed with a time of 16.05 seconds, the seventh fastest time in the event in school history.
Senior
Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) had a strong day in the jumping pits, with two top-10 finishes. She was eighth in the high jump as she cleared 1.56 meters, good for a PR, while she was ninth in the triple jump at 11.03 meters. In the discus,
Liz Ghazanchian (Glendale, Calif.) recorded a toss of 35.57 meters, while
Miranda Owen (San Bernardino, Calif.) posted a throw of 34.88 meters to finish 19th and 20th respectively.
Rounding out the day Saturday was the Coyote 4x400 meter relay team of Nnoham, Weatherford,
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), and
Briana Miller (San Bernardino, Calif.), who placed fifth at 3:58.67.
The Coyotes will be off next weekend before travelling to Sacramento State for the Hornet Invitational on Friday, March 21.
