CLAREMONT, Calif. - A three-year-old NCAA Division II record was rewritten by the California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team as the Coyotes competed Saturday at the Rossi Relays, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Graduate student
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) and seniors
Amari Weatherford (Southeast San Diego, Calif.),
Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.), and
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) combined for a blazing fast time of 1:42.04 in the 800-meter sprint medley relay, shattering the NCAA Division II record by over two seconds.
In the same event, the quartet of
Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.),
Cierra Ellis (Eastvale, Calif.),
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), and
Briana Miller (San Bernardino, Calif.) finished sixth at 1:49.81.
The same group that set the record in the sprint medley relay also won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 45.52. In the 100-meter dash, Ackerman was the fourth place finisher with a CCAA Championship qualifying time of 12.25 seconds.
Miller, Hope, Weatherford, and White teamed up to win the 4x400-meter relay with an NCAA provisional time of 3:48.11. In sixth in the same event was the Coyote team of Nnoham, Ellis, Hunt, and junior Aiyan Allen-Jefferson (Riverside, Calif.).
A school record fell for the Coyotes in the shot put, where freshman
Gianna Frank (Marysville, Wash.) put her immediate mark in the record books with a heave of 12.95 meters. The distance is nearly a meter better than the previous school record of 12.01 meters, set by
Dani Lister last season.
Senior
Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) had a strong day for the Yotes with two top-six finishes. She was second in the long jump at 5.47 meters, while finishing sixth in the javelin at 35.80 meters.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will return to the track on Friday to compete in the RCC Invitational at Wheelock Stadium.
