SEASIDE, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team exploded for five goals from five different goal scorers on Sunday afternoon to knock off Cal State Monterey Bay 5-1 in CCAA action at Cardinale Stadium.
With the victory, the Coyotes move to 4-3-2 overall on the season and 2-0-0 in the CCAA.
The Yotes wasted no time getting on board, as
Angelyn Pena (Los Angeles, Calif.) found the back of the net in just the sixth minute to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Assisting on Pena's fourth goal of the season was senior
Angela Morales (Montclair, Calif.).
Senior
Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.) doubled the Coyote lead in the 20th minute when she converted from the penalty spot, defeating the Otter goalkeeper into the bottom left corner of the net.
A headed effort from sophomore
Sakiah Williams (San Bernardino, Calif.) gave the Coyotes a 3-0 lead in the 35th minute. Senior
Leslie Aldape (Ontario, Calif.) was credited with an assist on the Williams marker.
The first half was all Yotes, as the visitors outshot Cal State Monterey Bay 14-2, but the Otters got one back just 87 seconds into the second half on a goal from Gianna Foss.
In the 67th minute, the Coyotes really put the contest out of reach when junior
Mila Bettinelli (Sebastopol, Calif.) buried her first goal in a CSUSB uniform off a deflected Aldape shot.
Senior
Emilee Perez (Corona, Calif.) added one more for good measure in the 74th minute to give the game its final score of 5-1. Junior
Raylene Alcaraz (Riverside, Calif.) assisted on the goal.
In net, junior
Ryann Munoz (Wrightwood, Calif.) earned the victory with four saves in 77:24 of action. She was relieved late by junior
Anai Olmedo (Wildomar, Calif.), who stopped the only shot she faced in a little over 12 and a half minutes.
Next up for the Yotes, they will carry their perfect CCAA record into a Friday afternoon matchup against Stanislaus State. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
