Women's Soccer Cruises Past Cal State East Bay

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team exploded for five goals in a 5-0 win over Cal State East Bay Friday afternoon in a CCAA contest at Premier Field.

With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 6-5-3 on the season and 4-2-1 in the CCAA.

The Yotes wasted no time getting on the board on the afternoon, breaking the ice in just the second minute. Senior Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.) found sophomore Jackeline Fuentes (San Bernardino, Calif.) at the top of the box, who deposited a low shot past the East Bay keeper for a 1-0 CSUSB lead.

Cal State San Bernardino stretched its lead to two in just the fifth minute when Emilee Perez (Corona, Calif.) found the back of the net. Cervantes tallied her second assist in just five minutes, with a secondary assist credited to Ruby Segura (Cathedral City, Calif.).

Perez netted her second goal of the game and fifth of the season in the 24th minute to extend the Coyote lead to 3-0. Junior Raylene Alcaraz (Riverside, Calif.) assisted on the goal that put the Yotes up by three heading into halftime.

Just 48 seconds into the second half, the Coyotes scored again, this time with Cervantes getting in on the fun. The reigning CCAA Offensive Player of the Week cleaned up her own rebound and scored her fourth goal in the last two games.

In the waning moments of the contest, freshman Jaclyn Silva (Jurupa Valley, Calif.) capped the Coyote win by scoring her first collegiate goal. The rookie took a forward ball from sophomore Reagan Parkhill (San Dimas, Calif.) and calmly slid it into the far corner of the net to finish off the 5-0 victory.

The Coyotes held a lopsided edge in shots in the win, posting a 24-10 advantage in total shots and 13-4 edge in shots on goal. Junior Ryann Munoz (Wrightwood, Calif.) stopped all four shots on target that she faced to earn the shutout for Cal State San Bernardino.

Next up, the Yotes will look to stay hot when they face Cal State San Marcos at home on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
