SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team was blanked 2-0 by #5 Cal Poly Pomona Saturday afternoon in non-conference competition at Premier Field.
With the defeat, CSUSB drops to 1-2-3, seeing its four-match unbeaten streak come to a close.
Cal Poly Pomona broke the ice in the 31st minute when Alexis Macias scored her third goal of the season for the Broncos. The goal would hold up as the only goal of the first half.
In the 54th minute, the Broncos extended their lead to a pair on Vanessa Cruz's fourth goal of the season, the final goal of the match.
Senior Leila Peregrina (Chino, Calif.) looked sharp in net despite the defeat, making five saves. A highlight reel diving save to deny a penalty kick was Peregrina's top stop of the afternoon, keeping the match scoreless in the eighth minute.
Cal Poly Pomona had a 23-3 edge in shots and 6-2 advantage in corner kicks. They continue their program record seven-game season-opening win streak, moving to 7-0-0.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will play at home on Friday afternoon, opening CCAA play against Cal State Monterey Bay at Premier Field. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
