SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team played Cal State Monterey Bay to a 0-0 draw in the California Collegiate Athletic Association opener for both teams Friday afternoon at Premier Field.
With the draw, CSUSB moves to 1-2-4 overall on the season, and opens conference play at 0-0-1.
CSUSB had a great chance to take the lead in the waning minutes of the contest after a pair of corner kicks, and the best opportunity came when freshman defender Abby Bassett (Chino, Calif.) made a bid from distance, but the shot was gloved by the Otter goalkeeper to preserve the scoreless draw.
The Coyotes held a 16-11 advantage in shots in the tie, with an even 6-6 mark in shots on goal. Junior forward Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.) led all players in the contest with three shots.
Senior Leila Peregrina (Chino, Calif.) earned her fourth draw of the season in net for the Coyotes. She made six saves, one shy of her season high.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will play at home on Sunday, hosting their annual Breast Cancer Awareness game against San Francisco State at Premier Field. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
