TURLOCK, Calif. - Three student-athletes and one relay team won California Collegiate Athletic Association individual championships on Saturday afternoon as the California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team competed in the third and final day of the CCAA Championships at the Al Brenda Track at Warrior Stadium.
The Coyotes finished in third out of 11 teams, just three and a half points behind second place Chico State. Cal Poly Pomona won the team championship.
The 4x100 meter relay team was CSUSB's first individual championship on the day, in the very first track event. The quartet of
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.),
Kyndahl Carter (Los Angeles, Calif.),
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), and
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) combined to run a time of 46.39 seconds to win the title by two-thirds of a second.
Carter and Ackerman each followed up their relay win with individual titles of their own. Carter got the job done in the 100 meter hurdles with a first place time of 14.13 seconds, while Ackerman broke 12 seconds in the 100 meter dash with a first place finish of 11.99 seconds. Also in the 100, Hunt was second at 12.07 seconds, with Carter finishing seventh at 12.63 seconds.
The final CSUSB individual championship of the day came in the 400 meter run, where junior
Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.) completed her lap around the track in a championship time of 55.51 seconds. In the same event,
Na'kel Pennix (Redlands, Calif.) finished fourth at 58.38 seconds, while Hope was sixth at 59.41 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, four Coyotes finished in the top seven, led by Hunt in second at 24.88 seconds. White was close behind in third at 25.18 seconds, with Ackerman in fifth at 25.54 seconds and Hope in seventh at 26.11 seconds.
Closing out CSUSB's track events was the 4x400 meter relay, which saw the Coyotes finish in second, just .6 seconds behind the champions from Cal Poly Pomona.
Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.), Pennix, Hope, and White came together for a time of 3:51.32.
In the field events, the Coyotes finished in the sixth and seventh place in the javelin. Junior
Jaclyn Brown (Simi Valley, Calif.) placed sixth at 32.84 meters, while classmate
Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) placed seventh at 32.03 meters. Nguyen also finished seventh in the triple jump, with a distance of 10.29 meters.
The Yotes will compete in their final regular season meet next weekend at the two-day Franson Last Chance Meet at Azusa Pacific University on Friday and Saturday.
