LA JOLLA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team concluded the Triton Invitational on Saturday at UC San Diego.

The highest individual finish on the day came in the 5,000 meter run, where junior Helena Valdez (Riverside, Calif.) placed second with a time of 18:23.55. She bested her previous personal best by over three seconds with the result.

In the same event, Valdez was joined by freshman Jordan Dennert (San Bernardino, Calif.), who placed 14th at 19:02.60, and junior Caty Gaynor (Claremont, Calif.), who finished 17th at 19:08.40.

The 4x400 meter relay also placed second on the afternoon. Junior Na'kel Pennix (Redlands, Calif.), freshman Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), junior Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.), and junior Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.) combined to run a time of 3:53.69.

Senior Kyndahl Carter (Los Angeles, Calif.) had yet another strong day in a pair of hurdle events. She went sub-14 seconds with a time of 13.99 in the 100 meter hurdles to place sixth overall, while she PRed in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.71 to place eighth.

Graduate student Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) was the top Coyote finisher in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. In the 100, she placed seventh with a time of 11.90 seconds, followed by Carter in 12th at 12.07 seconds and junior Sierra Stokes (Carson, Calif.) in 24th at 12.57 seconds. In the 200, Ackerman was ninth at 24.89 seconds, while Hope matched her PR with a time of 25.19 seconds to place 18th.

In the 400 meter run, White earned points for the Coyotes with an eighth place finish and a time of 55.51 seconds. Hope nabbed her second PR of the day with a 13th place finish at 58.40 seconds, while Pennix was 16th at 58.92 seconds.

Graduate student Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, Calif.) led the Coyotes in the 800 meter run, placing 13th with a personal best of 2:19.71. She was followed up by sophomore Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.), who placed 22nd with a time of 2:22.30, and junior Brianna Johnson (Gardena, Calif.), who placed 35th with a PR of 2:25.94.

Rounding out the track events was the 1,500 meter run, where Cal State San Bernardino was paced by Wallace, who placed 11th with a PR of 4:46.79. Valdez placed 21st at 4:56.07 in the event, while junior Joanna Lopez (Ontario, Calif.) was 46th at 5:05.95.

In the field events, CSUSB was led by Mayra Mejia Haller (Fontana, Calif.) in the shot put. She recorded a heave of 10.55 meters. In the long jump, the leading San Bernardino finisher was freshman Hannah Luster (Roseville, Calif.), who leapt 5.04 meters.

The Coyotes will return to action next weekend with a pair of meets. Some athletes will compete in Azusa at the Bryan Clay Invitational, while others will take part in the Cal State LA Twilight Open. Both meets are slated to begin on Thursday.
