Women's Track & Field Sets Two Meet Records at Chris Rinne Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team had an impressive showing on Saturday at the Chris Rinne Invitational, hosted by UC Riverside.

The Coyotes set two meet records and two program records, to go along with five first place finishes.

The first program and meet record and first place finish came in the 4x400 meter relay, where Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.), Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), Na'kel Pennix (Redlands, Calif.), and Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.) ran a time of 3:44.76 on Saturday. The previous program record of 3:47.81 stood for a whopping day, as the same quartet set the new program record on Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Another day-old program record that fell on Saturday was in the 400 meter run, where White dazzled with a PR of over a second at 54.03 seconds. The mark was good for first place and a meet record, and is the ninth fastest time in Division II so far this season.

In the same event, Pennix, Hope, and Nnoham finished in positions two, three, and five respectively. Pennix ran a time of 56.89 seconds, Hope PRed at 56.99 seconds, and Nnoham posted a 58.66.

Graduate student Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) was the first place finisher in the 100 meter dash on Saturday with a time of 11.89 seconds. CSUSB also had runners place ninth, 11th, and 12th in the event, as Kyndahl Carter (Los Angeles, Calif.) ran a 12.32, Sierra Stokes (Carson, Calif.) ran a 12.44, and Mahlaya Salter (Chino, Calif.) ran a 12.55.

Carter was the top finisher in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing just .02 seconds off her program record time at 13.92 seconds.

CSUSB's final first place finisher came in the jumping events, where Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) eclipsed 1.52 meters in the high jump. She was also the sixth place finisher in the triple jump at 10.87 meters and ninth in the long jump at 5.32 meters. Also in the long jump, freshman Hannah Luster (Roseville, Calif.) set a PR with a leap of 5.12 meters to finish 12th.

The top CSUSB finisher in the 200 meter run was Stokes, who recorded a time of 25.46 seconds.

In the longest run of the day, junior Helena Valdez (Riverside, Calif.) was the top CSUSB finisher in the 5,000 meter, running a time of 18:39.47 to place fifith. She was one of three Coyotes in the top 10, as Joanna Lopez (Ontario, Calif.) was ninth at 19:22.80 and Maria Rojas (Riverside, Calif.) was 10th at 19:51.04.

The top four CSUSB finishers in the 800 meter run all set PRs on Saturday. Sophomore Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.) led the way with a seventh place finish at 2:21.34, followed by 12th place finisher Brianna Johnson (Gardena, Calif.) at 2:23.70. Freshman Hailey Lynk (Banning, Calif.) was 17th at 2:30.52, while Caty Gaynor (Claremont, Calif.) set a PR by 11 seconds with a time of 2:31.60 and an 18th place finish.

CSUSB had four athletes in the top 10 of the discus throw. Junior Liz Ghazanchian (Glendale, Calif.) let the way at 38.52 meters for a fifth place finish, with sophomore Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.) right behind her in sixth at 38.39 meters. Jaclyn Brown (Simi Valley, Calif.) placed ninth at 36.29 meters, while Miranda Owen (San Bernardino, Calif.) was 10th at 35.06 meters.

Three Coyotes found themselves in the top 10 of the shot put, all with personal best heaves. Senior Mayra Mejia Haller (Fontana, Calif.) was seventh at 11.50 meters, while Alewa Anaya (Long Beach, Calif.) was eighth at 11.03 meters and Ghazanchian 10th at 10.42 meters.
