LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's track & field team notched four first-place finishes as they competed Thursday at the Cal State Los Angeles Twilight Open.

A school record fell in the triple jump, where junior Emily Nguyen (Westminster, Calif.) eclipsed 11 meters for the first time in program history, leaping 11.03 meters to win her event and break the school record of 10.87 meters previously held by Valentina Sanabria, which had stood since April 2019. Nguyen was also CSUSB's top finisher in the long jump, where she PRed at 5.33 meters for a third-place finish.

Also notching a first-place result was the 4x100 meter relay team of Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.), Kyndahl Carter (Los Angeles, Calif.), Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.), and Alexis White (San Bernardino, Calif.), who notched an NCAA Division II provisional mark of 46.04 seconds. It is the third separate quartet of Coyotes to achieve a provisional mark in the event this season.

Freshman Jordan Dennert (San Bernardino, Calif.) was Cal State San Bernardino's first first-place finisher of the day, taking the top spot in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a PR of 11:42.34. 

Junior Helena Valdez (Riverside, Calif.) rounded out CSUSB's first-place finishers in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:56.41, an event in which CSUSB claimed each of the top three spots. Junior Joanna Lopez (Ontario, Calif.) placed second at 5:07.72, while classmate Arlene Castro (Yucca Valley, Calif.) placed third at 5:14.99.

Cal State San Bernardino claimed three of the top four spots in the 800 meter run on Thursday. Sophomore Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.) led the charge with a second place finish at 2:23.87, followed by a Valdez PR of 2:26.39 for third, and junior Brianna Johnson (Gardena, Calif.) in fourth at 2:26.60. 

Hope and Carter placed third and fourth respectively in the 200 meter dash with times of 24.70 and 25.03 seconds. Hope rounded out her strong day with a PR of 57.72 seconds in the 400 meter run, good for fifth place. She was preceded by junior Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.), who crossed the line at 57.69 seconds to place fourth.

Wrapping up CSUSB's track results was a trio of top-10 finishes in the 100 meter dash. Ackerman was the top Coyote finisher, placing fifth at 11.84 seconds, just .03 off the NCAA provisional mark. In eighth was Carter at 12.13 seconds, while junior Sierra Stokes (Carson, Calif.) placed 10th at 12.28 seconds.

The only Coyote thrower to compete on Thursday was junior Liz Ghazanchian (Glendale, Calif.) she achieved a toss of 37.59 in the discus throw to place seventh overall.

A select group of CSUSB women's track & field student-athletes will take part on Friday and Saturday at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University.
