SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University women's track & field team competed separately in two separate meets on Saturday afternoon, as the distance runners competed at the Occidental Distance Carnival, while the rest of the squad competed in day two of the Ben Brown Invitational at Cal State Fullerton.
At Cal State Fullerton, the Coyotes combined to achieve three NCAA Division II provisional marks. The 4x100 meter relay team, comprised of
Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.),
Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.),
Sierra Stokes (Carson, Calif.), and
Kyndahl Carter (Los Angeles, Calif.), achieved the feat for the second time this season, placing second only to Division I Cal State Fullerton, posting a time of 46.64 seconds. Carter also achieved an NCAA provisional mark in the 100-meter hurdles with a third place finish and PR of 14.20 seconds.Â
The third CSUSB NCAA provisional mark came in the 200 meter dash, where junior
Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) posted a blazing time of 24.14 seconds to place third overall. In the same event, Hope had a time of 20th overall with a personal best of 25.41 seconds.
In the 100 meter dash, Ackerman placed fourth overall at 11.92 seconds to set a PR, with Carter in 21st at 12.37 seconds. In the 400, junior
Na'kel Pennix (Redlands, Calif.) was 14th with a time of 59.06 seconds, and was followed closely by Hope, who was 17th at 59.36 seconds. Pennix, Ackerman, Stokes, and Hope combined for a third place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:56.57.
The top CSUSB finishers in both the shot put and discus both placed 23rd overall in their respective events.
Dani Lister (Lake Forest, Calif.) had a heave of 11.18 meters in the shot put, while
Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.) recorded a throw of 36.99 meters in the discus.
At Occidental, the top Coyote finish came in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, where freshman
Jordan Dennert (San Bernardino, Calif.) placed fifth with a time of 11:49.62. Freshman
Liana Brehm (Menifee, Calif.) and junior
Caty Gaynor (Claremont, Calif.) placed 11th and 13th respectively with times of 12:20.84 and 12:28.00.
In the 800 meter run, a pair of Coyotes finished in the top 20. Sophomore
Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.) was 16th at 2:23.15, while junior
Brianna Johnson (Gardena, Calif.) was close behind in 18th at 2:25.98.
Rounding out the top CSUSB event finishers were graduate student
Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, Calif.) was was 20th at 18:09.44 in the 5,000 meter run and junior
Joanna Lopez (Ontario, Calif.), who was 30th at 5:04.50 in the 1,500 meter.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will compete in the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State next Friday and Saturday.
