SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Junior Hailey Hunt (Winnetka, Calif.) set a new program record in the 100 meter dash on Saturday afternoon as the California State University women's track & field team competed in the second day of the Hornet Invitational at Sacramento State.
The junior ran a time of 11.66 seconds to place fourth in the 99-runner field, primarily Division I athletes. She defeated Sariyah Copeland's time of 11.68 from last season.
In the same event, Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) placed 13th with a time of 11.96 seconds.
Kyndahl Carter (Los Angeles, Calif.) had a strong showing for the Coyotes in the 100 meter hurdles. She placed seventh overall with a personal best time of 14.16 seconds.
Another PR fell in the 400 meter run, where Na'kel Pennix (Redlands, Calif.) placed 16th overall with a time of 57.72 seconds. Junior Prishencia Nnoham (Palmdale, Calif.) was the 32nd place finisher in the event at 59.58 seconds, and was followed closely by 34th place finisher Coryssa Hope (Riverside, Calif.).
Sophomore Kai Marroquin (Rosemead, Calif.) was CSUSB's top finisher in the 800 meter run, with a time of 2:23.88 to place 27th overall. Coming in at 37th was junior Brianna Johnson (Gardena, Calif.), who ran a time of 2:28.67.
Rounding out the track events was CSUSB's top finisher in the 1,500 meter run, junior Joanna Lopez (Ontario, Calif.). She placed 69th with a time of 5:05.52.
In the discus throw, Cal State San Bernardino was led by sophomore Melissa Fongod (Corona, Calif.), who placed 19th at 36.93 meters. Right behind her was junior Dani Lister (Lake Forest, Calif.), who recorded a toss of 36.60 meters to place 20th.
The Yotes will be back in action starting next Friday at the two-day West Coast Relays, hosted by San Diego State.
