BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's golf team finished in a tie for third place as the Coyotes wrapped up the Battle in the Desert Wednesday at Rams Hill Golf Club.
Cal State San Bernardino turned in a team score of even par 288 on the par 72 course. The Coyotes fell shy of tournament winners Florida Southern by 10 shots, and runners up Georgia Southwestern by four shots. They tied with Western New Mexico.
Of the eight CCAA institutions competing at the tournament, Cal State San Bernardino was the top finisher.
Coyote junior John Kim (Palm Desert, Calif.) and sophomore Chris Wardrup (La Quinta, Calif.) turned in the lowest scores of round three for Cal State San Bernardino, each shooting one-under 71. Wardrup had the shot of the day for San Bernardino, holing an 8-iron from 150 yards out for an eagle two on the par-4 13th.
Senior Cole Obrigewitsch (Deer Valley, Saskatchewan) was even on the final day, turning in a 72. He had a trio of birdies on the day, on holes seven, eight, and 12.
Rounding out CSUSB's team scores were sophomore Trent Fitzgerald (Santee, Calif.) and senior Andres Navarro (Montebello, Calif.). Each posted two-over 74s to close out their tournament.
The Coyotes will return to action on Sunday for round one of the Las Vegas Desert Classic at Boulder Creek Golf Course.
