SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cal State San Marcos Friday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at the Cage.
With the defeat, CSUSB falls to 2-3-4 overall and 1-1-1 in CCAA play.
The Cougars opened the scoring two and a half minutes into the second half when Nani Kia'aina scored her first goal of the season. San Marcos doubled their lead in the 56th minute on a Natalie Paulson tally.
Just 1:33 later, CSUSB cut into the lead when junior Bella Cervantes (Anaheim, Calif.) netted her team-leading third goal of the season. A shot from the top of the box by classmate Ayme Delgado (Chula Vista, Calif.) was knocked down in traffic, but Cervantes jumped all over the rebound to draw the Yotes to within one.
That would be as close as the Coyotes would get however, as San Marcos conceded only one more shot in the final 33 minutes of the game to close out the victory.
Senior netminder Leila Peregrina (Chino, Calif.) took the loss in net for CSUSB. She made four saves in the defeat.
Next up for the Yotes, they will travel north to take on Cal State East Bay on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
